Membership Assistance Program
WHAT IS THE MAP?
MAP stands for Membership Assistance Program. Your
MAP provides you and your family with free and
confidential help in dealing with person problems.
WHAT KINDS OF
PROBLEMS CAN THE MAP HELP?
Your MAP can help you and your family with most any
kind of problem that affects your personal well being
and your ability to perform your job. These include
marital or family problems, financial or legal
difficulties, emotional or stress-related problems, drug
or alcohol abuse, or problems related to work. The MAP
provides a counselor who can assess the problem and see
to it that you or your family member receives the
appropriate assistance.
WHY DO WE HAVE
THE CARPENTERS' MAP?
You are important to the Brotherhood of Carpenters
and your employer. Your personal problems can harm your
health, your work, and your family life. The MAP helps
members and their families solve these problems before
they get worse.
HOW DO I USE
THE MAP?
To get help, just call 1-888-MAP-6637. Professional
counselors are available all day, every day. Should you
need or want to meet with a counselor, a time and place
will be scheduled that is convenient for you.
Ninety-nine percent of Carpenter members will have a
counselor located within twenty-five miles of their
home. In most cases, the counselor's office will be much
closer than that.
IS THE MAP
CONFIDENTIAL?
Confidentiality is one of the most important aspects
of the MAP. Be assured that if you or a family members
contacts the MAP directly, no one with your employer or
union will know unless you tell you them.
WHO PAYS FOR
THE MAP?
The MAP is a health benefit provided by
the medical plan. It is free to all eligible members and
their families. Sometimes, there may be a need for
additional professional services and a referral is made
to an outside agency. In such cases, the MAP staff will
work with you to find services covered by your health
insurance or that you can afford.
